You have to hand it to NY Giant Oliver Vernon for his consistency. Vernon remains consistently contemptible for refusing to stand for our National Anthem.
Six teams played NFL games on Thursday and Vernon was the only player who still insisted on kneeling during the anthem.
Vernon made it sound as though he’s sacrificing something for a worthwhile cause. If he really believed that why hasn’t he donated a portion of his $85 million contract to help the families of blacks who were victims of out of control police officers?
After the game Vernon tried explaining his actions. “What it would take for me to stand is if people can understand what the whole message is behind it. That would actually help a whole lot, but everybody doesn’t see things that way and tries to distort what the message was from the beginning, which is basically social injustice on African-Americans and police brutality.”
That explanation comes right out of the Barack Obama “stir the pot of racism” playbook. Unfortunately, like everything Obama, it’s a complete distortion of the facts and something that Vernon, as the son of a 25-year police veteran, should know.
Peter Kirsanow, an attorney and member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, relying on statistics released by Obama’s own Justice Department explained that that police have actually been cowed into pulling back their policing efforts in the black neighborhoods that desperately need it making these communities less safe for everyone (including Blacks) who live in them. He also used the statistics to prove that purported police violence is disproportionately higher against Blacks is a lie:
“That blacks are killed two and a half times more often than whites are by policemen. However, when you take a look at that statistic that is far less than what the data would predict given black crime rates.
“Take New York City for example. Blacks are not two and a half times more likely to commit crimes. Blacks in New York City are thirty-five times more likely to commit robberies than whites, thirty-eight times more likely to commit murders, and fifty-one times more likely to engage in shootings regardless of whether or not it results in a homicide.
“So, when you think of about two and a half times versus 51 times, the type of police involvement that you would expect from those kinds of stats is far below than what would be predicted.”
Kirsanow explained this has led to the “Ferguson Effect” – police withdrawing from policing rather than putting their own lives at greater risk – and as a result is turning black communities into ever more dangerous places for law-abiding citizens and their children.
Sadly while Vernon was kneeling, police were conducting a manhunt for the murderer of a Texas state trooper after a routine traffic stop yesterday.
Highway Patrol Trooper Damon Allen, 41, and a 15-year veteran of the force was shot multiple times by Dabrett Black as he approached Black’s car. Allen leaves behind a widow and three children. His killer is African American.
When police finally cornered Black they had every opportunity to take him out but resisted the temptation. Audio of the live radio dispatch captures one officer saying: “We got this guy. We’ve got eyeballs on him. Let’s take our time and get him on our terms, not on his terms.”
Black was taken into custody and will face capital murder charges.
One thing we know for certain, in every instance where police officers discharged their weapons they had reason to believe that their victims were doing something illegal and that they felt threatened.
On the other hand, the spate of police assassinations that have taken place since the Obama-backed Black Lives Movement was launched in the White House were cold-blooded murders often against cops sitting in their cars threatening no one.
No word yet from Oliver Vernon, Vernon’s father, or LaVar Ball thanking the police for sparing this cretin’s life.
